Stephen "Steve" John Maassen Godfrey - Stephen ("Steve") John Maassen, 72, of Godfrey, IL and Venice, FL, passed away on February 27, 2024, after a courageous battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). Steve was born on May 2, 1951 to Harriet B. (Muyskens) Maassen and John H. Maassen in Clifton Springs, NY. He obtained a B.A. from Central College in Pella, IA in 1973 and a J.D. from Valparaiso University (Valparaiso, IN) in 1977. He spent 40 years with his Alton, IL law firm, and was admitted to practice in IL, MO and IN. He is survived by Diana K. (Duncan) Maassen, his wife of 40 years, as well as his children, Alison N. Maassen (Roman Garcia) of Madrid, Spain and Jonathan C. Maassen, of Venice, FL and two grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered for his boundless generosity, sage advice, and kind spirit. A memorial service and reception will be held at the Bridge Church (formerly 12th Street Presbyterian), 504 East 12th Street, Alton, IL, on Saturday, September 7th, 2024.
