Eugene "Gene" J. Schmitt Foley, Alabama - Eugene (Gene) Schmitt was born on November, 21, 1938. He served 2 years in the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed in Tripoli, Libya, North Africa. He then began a 30 plus year career in the USPS retiring in 1994 as a Postmaster. He graduated from SIU-E, Magna Cum Laude. He and his wife, Shari, after their retirement, traveled in their motorhome all over the U.S., including Alaska and Canada, during which time Gene finished the final edit of "Tiger," the book he wrote. In retirement, Gene and Shari lived for 22 years in North Port, Florida, before moving to Foley, Alabama in 2018, where he passed away, August 16, 2024. Gene is survived by his wife, Sharon K. Schmitt, 2 daughters, one in in Alabama and Missouri, 3 sons, in Mississippi, Illinois and Georgia; 8 grandchildren and 6 great-children.
